Indian Sex Predators in America?

Murthy ...

Visit this site and take a look at what your "law abiding people" have to say in chats with whom they think are 13 yr olds ... http://www.perverted-justice.com/?archive=vamale_692005 ... A word of warning to viewers, the chat details are quite graphic ...

"After analyzing the case of Indians I realized that most likely, people who got caught are not pathological pedophiles and are probably first time visitors."

You are unaware of the extent of the problem of child sexual abuse ... There have been hundreds of convictions due to online vigilantes like these, and only a small fraction of them appear on Dateline ... Most of them are repeat offendors ...

"I do not believe that many underage girls arrange to have sex with unknown and older men. "

In 99% of the cases it is the man who initiates all advances ... And the language used here on 13 year olds is enough to make you sick ... Visit any of the 138 convicted cases listed in the site I mentioned above ...

"The point I am making is that if DATELINE NBC didn't provide this opportunity for Internet chat and importantly, setup a place to the two parties to meet, many of these folks may not have been transformed into people intend (beyond chat) to have sex with underage children."

If NBC or other online vigilantes did not do this, then real kids would have fallen victim to these guys ... Would you have preferred that? ... By publicizing such stings, NBC is actually making potential paedophiles think twice before they reply to their next victim ... I can't think of a better deterrent to this crime ...

Indian Sex Predators in America?

Thanks Munir ... I think I'll wait for Prf Dr MMS to respond back to what he meant ...

And these men were arrested not for cyber sex, but for actually showing up at the house of a 13 year old when she was alone ... What do you think would have happened if the police had not turned up? ... They would have had a juice to drink and left quitely? ... Do you think what they did (or were about to do to a 13 yr old) was justified, even for cheap thrills? ...

And people don't go to jail for watching x-rated movies because it's not illegal to watch them ... If someone wants to kill another guy for cheap thrills, would he be justified in doing so? ...

And I still can't understand the context of Indians vs Americans ... Munir, do you honesty think that 30 year old educated men from India are unaware that sex with minors is an illegal offense? ... I can't believe that ...

Indian Sex Predators in America?

Murthi ... You mentioned -

"In situations of rare occurrence, this NBC sting operation has the unfortunate consequence of creating a new and significant avenuefor many law-abiding men to act out their fantasies, in violation of law and ethics, and in the process, destroy their lives and their families"

You think it's unfair that NBC has "created" an avenue to encourage men to liason with under age girls ... Tell me something ... If your neighbour's house was unlocked and the door wide open and you can see his expensive mobile on his table unattended ... Would it be justified if you went in and stole it? ... Will you then blame the neighbour for creating a "new and significant avenue" to tempt you? ...

Because stealing would still be illegal ... As what these men did was illegal ... Not just illegal, but immoral and unethical in ANY country ...

Murthy ... I can't believe you're actually defending a potential peadophile! ... I've watched the Dateline NBC program that you've mentioned in your blog ... You make it seem as if the Indian community was targeted, but 90% of the predators were American citizens ... Among the predators caught in this sting operation was a doctor, an army man and even a Rabbi ... Yes, all of them are otherwise law-abiding citizens ... But you don't need a degree in law to know that soliciting sex from a 13- year is illegal! ...

After the arrests, police read out the transcripts of the chat to the predators while they griled them ... The content of those transcripts leaves one in no doubt whatsoever what these people would have done given the chance ... One man in the Sting Operation in Fairfax, VA even stripped to his birthday suit when he came inside the house ... And in all cases, the "victim" repeated various times in the chat that she was 13, so it's not as if they did not know her age ...

Broadcasting such programs and showing that police have taken firm action against the offendors will act as a strong deterrent to anyone even considering something like this ... The internet revolution has opened up a complex world to our kids and lack of laws and rules can get very disconcerting ...

If you're upset with the sting operation because a few Indians have also been caught in it, then I can't say much about your judgement ... Instead of castigating the NBC program for bringing these potential criminals to light, we should be ashamed of our fellow countrymen that you have mentioned in your blog ... Definitely not supporting them ...

And the War-Scar goes to ...

S DDDDDDDDD ... I agree the blog is lengthy ... I had written it over a period of one week! ... Next time I guess I'll post such long blogs in installments ... Or better still, post smaller blogs! ...

NN ... Well, I am honoured by Meenakshi gracing this blog with her presence! ... And about taking things in the right spirit, I wouldn't worry about it ... I seemed to have inherited that trait from my Mom! ...

Mulliner, Naad, bilingual and Kanchan ... Thanks for your gracious comments! ... I'll keep posting my thoughts regulary here ... Sulekha can get very addictive! ...

Ami Tex ... I did not mention it in my previous comment to you, but I missed the point you were trying to make in your comments ... Are you saying that the death toll due to the Iraq war is not as high as the world makes it out to be? ... Are were you just going through my blog with a fine-toothed comb and correcting any factual errors you came across? ... This seems to be a very popular hobby on the blogosphere! ...

And the War-Scar goes to ...

Ami Tex ...

I followed the link you stated in your comment and got to this site - http://www.iraqbodycount.net/database/

Now this site gives the body count of all CIVILIAN deaths since the war to be in the range of 50,000 ... The Non-Civillian death count, in my assumption, would be higher ...

There was another indepedent study conducted in collaboration with MIT which put the deaths in Iraq due to the war at 600,000 - http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2006/images/10/11/human.cost.of.war.pdf

The point I was trying to make was that the human cost of the war was tremendous for Iraq ... Now if you're the kind of person who is particular about exact figures and numbers, I apologize ... Please tell me the number you want me to place on my blog and I'll edit the blog to replace the 100,000 figure ...

Tales from a juvenile boarder!

Hmmm ... This blog takes me back to my first days at boarding school almost 10 years back! ... Although the experiences one goes through at a boys hostel are slightly more mischevious from those you've mentioned here! ...

Dhoom 2 - What a ride!

I'm not a big fan of action movies, Hindi or English, so I'll refrain from commenting about Dhoom ... Stunt sequences, special effects and glamorous actresses are all good to have, but one thing action movies these days ignore is dialogues ... A good punchline is ultimately what will make a movie, action or otherwise, memorable ...

Consider the following classics -

"You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk?” ... Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry

"I'll be Back" ... Arnie in Termnator

"Kitne aadmi the?" ... Gabbar in Sholay

Even the slick, special effects loaded Matrix trilogy had loads of soundbites ... These are what make an action movie complete ...
